Popular tourist destinations UK travelers can visit – and can’t amid covid cases

Today, the travel industry and its rules can seem a bit confusing – and you’re not the only one who thinks so.

While some countries are open to British tourists, others only allow those who are fully vaccinated and some close their borders completely.

For example, after a month-long ban, France just reopened its borders for fully vaccinated people today (January 14) after fears of the latest omicron variant spreading.

However, if you wish to visit France and not be vaccinated, you will need to have a “compelling reason” to obtain permission to enter.

Malta, however, has gone in the opposite direction by tightening its travel rules.

This means that from Monday January 17, UK travelers will need to show proof of vaccination to enter the country, with covid vaccination certificates now only valid for three months from the second dose.

From November 30, 2021, UK travelers who do not have existing residency status are not permitted to enter Japan unless they are essential.

In addition to this, it also means that anyone who has received a booster dose will have nine months until their vaccine certificate expires and only those who are vaccinated can go to bars, restaurants, gyms, swimming pools , cinemas and sporting events.

Malta joins other countries that are also getting stricter with Australia, Japan, Gabon and Benin only allowing people in for “essential” purposes.

So where can you visit with all these covid travel rules in place – and where can’t you?
