OFA hosts discussion on adventure tourism in Oman

Muscat – To promote adventure tourism in the Sultanate, an event titled “Tourism in Oman – World Adventure” was organized by the Oman French Association (OFA) at Al Bustan Palace, A Ritz-Carlton Hotel, on Wednesday.

The event was held under the auspices of HE Véronique Aulagnon, Ambassador of France, to the Sultanate. Almost 100 attendees including tour operators and adventure athletes attended the event which discussed how to develop a strong, safe and respectful tourism industry with employment opportunities in Oman.

A team of athletes from France presented a video they shot in the sultanate after arriving recently exploring great mountain biking sites in Oman.

This was followed by a round table.

According to panelist Dr Khaled Abdul Malak, dentist and explorer based in Muscat, the tourism industry “must involve more locals as guides and our main job must be to preserve the environment”.

He also noted the requirement for a program in which Omani youth travel to France for training in the tourism industry. “Upon their return, they will be able to bring their experiences and expertise to the field and help Oman further evolve as an adventure tourism destination. “

Also during the discussion, Thomas Manfe, project manager of Sidekick Company, a French tour operator company, suggested developing outdoor activities as an asset for Omani tourism, connecting them with major brands and industries of adventure abroad.

Sophie al Wahaibi, co-owner of the Colors of Oman travel agency based in Muscat, explained what French tourists look for in Oman and stressed the importance of qualified guides to ensure the safety of visitors.

OFA is a non-profit association registered with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and supported by the French Embassy. OFA aims to provide a platform that promotes friendship, understanding and matters of mutual interest between French and Omani businesses and social communities active in the Sultanate.
