186 municipalities listed for natural disasters
You have to claim on the natural disaster guarantee in your home insurance policy within 10 calendar days of posting the ad in The Official Journal today, that is to say. before November 10.
Also note that if you were affected last year by damage, such as cracks, caused by land movements due to drought followed by rehydration of the soil, a list of natural disasters has also been announced regarding this last weekend and there are only five days left for complaints (see complete list of municipalities on this link).
The first thing to do is check your policy to make sure you have the right coverage – but that’s standard in multi-risk home insurance policies. So contact your insurer as soon as possible.
A complaint can normally be initiated by phone, SMS, email or whatever method is quickest for you and supporting documents can be sent after the 10 day deadline if the complaint has already been opened.
You will need to provide a description of the damage, a list of lost or damaged items and, if possible, proof of ownership and value such as invoices and photographs.
Take photos or videos of damaged items, but you should not throw them away – especially in the case of valuables, as the insurer may call an expert to visit and assess the claim.
If you need to do urgent repairs or cleaning, take pictures first.
